In a significant move to bolster its digital economy, Kuwait has officially launched “Kuwait AI,” a national initiative aimed at accelerating the country’s adoption of artificial intelligence. Spearheaded by the Informatics Academy of the H.H. Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award, the initiative is designed to support the nation’s digital transformation journey and contribute directly to the ambitious goals of the “New Kuwait 2035” vision.
A National Vision for AI Leadership
The launch of Kuwait AI marks a pivotal moment for the nation’s tech ecosystem, signaling a clear commitment to fostering a future built on innovation and smart technologies. Sheikha Aida Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Informatics Award, stated that the initiative’s vision is to establish Kuwait as a regional leader in artificial intelligence, which she described as an indispensable tool for human advancement and creativity. The program aims to transition the community towards smart skills, stimulate innovation to solve societal challenges, and empower thousands of citizens with the capabilities needed for the future workforce.
Empowering Talent Through Strategic Partnerships
Kuwait AI is built on a foundation of robust local and global collaborations. A key international partner is the global learning platform Coursera, which will help deliver the “AI Pioneers Program.” This program is designed to equip Kuwaiti talent with world-class competencies in AI and digital technologies, from foundational knowledge to advanced, specialized applications. Nicola Foco, Coursera’s Regional Director for EMEA, highlighted that with nearly 40% of core skills expected to change in the next five years due to AI, this partnership is critical for preparing Kuwait’s workforce for both the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Locally, the initiative has garnered widespread support from key academic institutions, government bodies, and private sector players, including Kuwait University, Abdullah Al-Salem University, the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprise Development, and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
Comprehensive and Accessible Training Programs
A core tenet of the Kuwait AI initiative is to make advanced tech education accessible to all citizens. All training programs offered are entirely free of charge, with the H.H. Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award covering all financial costs. The curriculum is comprehensive, covering high-demand fields such as Generative AI, AI agents, content creation, data science, programming, and entrepreneurship.
The initiative will employ a diverse range of learning methods, including online courses, in-person workshops, and gamified learning, to cater to different learning styles and ensure broad participation. Upon completion, graduates will receive certificates to enhance their professional profiles and advance their careers in the tech sector.
