The Egyptian Ministry of Labor is spearheading a series of targeted initiatives across multiple governorates, aimed at strengthening the country’s workforce, fostering entrepreneurship, and ensuring the implementation of updated labor regulations. These coordinated efforts focus on upskilling citizens, supporting the creation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and enhancing the overall business environment.

Fostering a New Generation of Entrepreneurs

In Sohag, the ministry’s local directorate concluded a three-day entrepreneurship program for 50 graduates of vocational training courses. Held in collaboration with the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), the program equipped participants with essential business skills, including how to conduct feasibility studies, perform SWOT analysis, and select profitable projects. The initiative aims to provide a clear pathway from vocational skill acquisition to business ownership, with plans for follow-up visits to MSMEDA’s one-stop-shop to facilitate financing and formal registration.

Targeted Training for In-Demand Sectors

Recognizing the specific needs of regional economies, the ministry is rolling out specialized vocational programs. In Matrouh, a “Training for Employment” initiative was launched in partnership with the Almazino hotel group, successfully qualifying 50 trainees for careers in the vital tourism and hospitality sector.

Similarly, mobile training units are being deployed to reach remote communities. In Minya, a mobile unit in the village of Abuwan completed training courses in tailoring and sewing for 25 women, while another unit in Qena provided 10 young women with similar skills, empowering them to join the workforce or start their own micro-enterprises.

Ensuring Compliance with New Labor Regulations

A significant focus of the ministry’s recent activities has been to raise awareness and enforce compliance with the new Labor Law No. 14 of 2025. Directorates in South Sinai, Ismailia, and Assiut have conducted field visits and inspections at various commercial and industrial establishments to ensure adhere

ce to key provisions, including minimum wage standards, contract formalization, and workplace safety.
Awareness seminars have also been a key tool. In Ismailia, a workshop at the Dakahlia Poultry company explained articles related to non-discrimination, annual bonuses, and employment contracts. A similar session was held for employees at Helti Sky Food in Giza to familiarize them with the new law’s framework.

Promoting Inclusive and Safe Work Environments

Alongside regulatory enforcement, the ministry is actively promoting social inclusion and workplace safety. During the Giza event, the directorate facilitated the hiring of seven individuals with disabilities, reinforcing its commitment to integrating this demographic into the workforce and achieving the legally mandated 5% employment quota.

In Gharbia, the “Your Safety Matters” initiative was launched, focusing on educating workers on protocols for operating in confined spaces. Furthermore, the directorate in Luxor successfully mediated an individual labor dispute, highlighting its role in fostering stable and productive relationships between employers and employees through amicable settlements.
