The Beheira Governorate in Egypt is spearheading a series of training and awareness initiatives designed to empower youth and women with critical vocational an  life skills, aiming to boost economic opportunities and social development within the region.

Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Deputy Governor of Beheira, highlighted the governorate’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning, opening new horizons for residents to improve their livelihoods through skill acquisition. These efforts are part of the governorate’s adoption of the “I am a Lifelong Learner” initiative, a global UNESCO campaign promoting community, professional, and digital education.

From Vocational Training to Venture Creation

A key component of the program involved practical skills development. The Directorate of Youth and Sports conducted a five-day sewing course for 25 women and girls aged 18 to 40, specifically targeting female heads of households to provide them with a pathway to economic independence.

In collaboration with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), the directorate also organized a “How to Start Your Project” training course. The session catered to 30 young men and women, covering foundational business principles such as identifying human capital needs and managing project finances.

Cultivating Essential Life Skills

Beyond technical training, the initiatives focused on developing crucial soft skills. A workshop for “Meshwary” (My Journey) ambassadors at the Ramses Youth Center engaged 44 participants in activities centered on teamwork and the importance of financial savings, essential skills for personal and professional growth.

Expanding Support for Female Empowerment

The Beheira branch of the National Council for Women, led by Eng. Zakia Rashad, played a significant role by facilitating the issuance of 253 free national ID cards for women in the village of Imam Al-Hussein. This administrative support is a critical step for formal economic and social participation and was conducted as part of the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family.
