The Moroccan government has launched a landmark national program to provide digital and artificial intelligence (AI) training to children, a key pillar of the ambitious Maroc Digital 2030 strategy. The initiative aims to cultivate a new generation of tech-savvy innovators and accelerate the Kingdom’s transition into a leading knowledge-based economy. The official launch took place in Tangier, led by key government figures and strategic partners.
A Strategic Push For Digital Sovereignty
The program’s vision extends beyond basic digital literacy; it is a strategic move to reposition Morocco from a technology consumer to a producer. During the launch ceremony, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Public Administration Reform, emphasized this goal. “We want to empower our youth to innovate, create, and lead in the digital economy — not just adapt to it,” she stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, highlighted the urgency of future-proofing the nation’s youth. “The pace of global technological evolution demands that we equip our children early with the knowledge and curiosity to thrive in tomorrow’s world,” he added. The program provides an inclusive and structured framework to prepare young Moroccans for a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Building A Sustainable Educational Framework
Developed with support from UNESCO and the AI Movement at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the initiative is built on a scalable and sustainable “train-the-trainer” model. The first cohort of 65 youth center staff completed their training at UM6P in June 2025, preparing them to deliver workshops and hands-on modules across an initial 12 cities.
These trainers will mentor local educators, guiding children through learning activities that emphasize the ethical, safe, and creative application of technology. By empowering local leaders, the model ensures the program can expand nationwide to all youth houses without long-term dependence on external specialists, reaching children in diverse and rural communities.
Aligning With National Vision Maroc Digital 2030
This youth-focused initiative is a direct implementation of the Maroc Digital 2030 roadmap. By introducing AI concepts and digital tools at an early age through accessible youth centers, the government is tackling several core objectives of the national strategy. These include expanding digital inclusion, strengthening AI and data competencies, promoting early technological awareness, and embedding digital ethics into the national education system from the ground up.
