Port Said University Boosts Local Entrepreneurship With New Design Thinking Program

In a move to enhance the innovative capabilities of its students, Port Said University recently hosted a specialized training course on “Design Thinking.” The event, held from October 21-23, 2025, was organized by the university’s Center for Professional Performance Development in partnership with its Entrepreneurship Club and Egypt’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, an affiliate of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development. This initiative is part of the broader “Egypt Center Tours in the Governorates” program, aimed at strengthening the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Port Said.

Fostering a Culture of Innovation

Dr. Sherif Youssef Saleh, President of Port Said University, emphasized the institution’s commitment to programs that cultivate student skills and innovative thinking. He stated that collaborating with national innovation and entrepreneurship bodies aligns with the university’s vision to produce distinguished graduates equipped with the tools for creativity and leadership. The goal is to prepare students to meet the demands of the modern job market and lead future development projects.

Practical Training in Design Thinking

The course was designed to familiarize participants with modern innovation methodologies and the practical application of design thinking. According to Dr. Heba Youssef Suleiman, Director of the Center for Professional Performance Development, the training focused on generating creative ideas and developing innovative solutions for societal and technological challenges. The sessions, led by trainer Mina Ghaly from Egypt’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, included a series of applied workshops and interactive lectures. Participants were guided through the entire design thinking process, from identifying problems and understanding user needs to ideating, prototyping, and testing solutions.

Strengthening the Local Entrepreneurship Ecosystem

Dr. Mohamed Zein, Director of the university’s Entrepreneurship Club, highlighted that the course is a continuation of the university’s efforts to promote an entrepreneurial culture on campus. The program aims to equip students with the creative thinking skills necessary to transform promising ideas into sustainable projects that benefit society and the national economy. The university president also affirmed that more initiatives will be launched to empower youth, supporting the state’s direction to enhance youth capabilities and entrepreneurship as a cornerstone of sustainable development.
