In a landmark move for the region’s education landscape, Oman’s Ministry of Education has announced a major partnership with Microsoft to deploy 4,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses across its public schools. The initiative positions the Sultanate as one of the first countries in the Middle East to implement artificial intelligence copilots at scale, aiming to modernise classrooms and prepare students for a digital future.
A Three-Pronged Approach to AI in Education
The deployment is designed to enhance the educational experience for all stakeholders. Teachers will be equipped with intelligent tools to assist with planning lessons, grading assignments, and creating content, freeing up valuable time for more direct student engagement. For students, the AI-powered platform will offer personalised and interactive learning experiences designed to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and digital fluency. Additionally, school leaders and administrators will leverage data-driven insights to monitor performance, improve collaboration, and scale innovative practices across the entire education system.
Aligning with National Strategy
This ambitious program is a core component of Oman Vision 2040, the country’s long-term strategy for building a competitive, knowledge-based society. By integrating advanced AI tools into the curriculum, the Ministry aims to equip the nation’s youth with the skills necessary for the future workforce. The initiative specifically includes schools in both urban and rural areas to ensure equitable access to these transformative technologies for all students.
Building on a Digital Partnership
The AI rollout is the latest development in a long-standing digital transformation partnership between the Ministry of Education and Microsoft, which began in 2020. Previous collaborations have included extensive teacher training programs, the implementation of blended learning models, and initiatives like DigiGirlz. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft was instrumental in helping the ministry extend remote learning technologies to a majority of its schools. The announcement of the Copilot deployment was made during the COMEX 2025 technology conference.
