Banque Misr, a leading financial institution in Egypt, has announced a major collaboration with Google to launch a comprehensive training initiative aimed at upskilling the nation’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The program seeks to empower 10,000 businesses by en

ancing their digital capabilities, a crucial step in navigating the post-pandemic economic landscape.
This initiative will be delivered through the “Skills from Google” program and the bank’s business development centers, Nilepreneurs. It underscores a strategic focus on the MSME sector, which is widely recognized as a cornerstone of the Egyptian economy for its role in job creation and income generation.

Driving Digital Literacy for SMEs

The core objective of the program is to equip small business owners with essential skills in e-marketing, fiscal management, and overall digital fluency. Participants will attend introductory lectures highlighting the importance of a digital presence and learn how to adapt their operations to new remote and online business models.

The initiative will provide practical support by helping customers establish their own websites free of charge and develop effective marketing strategies to grow their businesses. In addition to digital training from Google, experts from Banque Misr will host interactive sessions to strengthen the financial acumen of the entrepreneurs. Upon completion, each of the 10,000 trainees will receive a certificate from both Banque Misr and Google, with the added opportunity to receive funding for their ventures from the bank.

A Strategic Push for Economic Growth

Leaders from both organizations highlighted the initiative’s significance in supporting Egypt’s national economy.
Mr. Mohamed El-Etreby, Chairman of the Board of Banque Misr, stated that this initiative underscores the Bank’s strive for offering distinguished services and actively partaking in initiatives that fulfil the needs of its customers. He reiterated that Banque Misr attaches foremost importance to the MSMEs sector and that trainees will be referred to the “Nilepreneurs” business development centers to capitalize on non-financial services to help them launch or expand their projects.

“Digital transformation has become an integral part of the development of any economic activity, regardless of its size,” said Mr. Hesham El-Nazer, General Manager of Google in Egypt. “As such, we are delighted to cooperate with Banque Misr in supporting thousands of small local businesses, which constitute a cornerstone of the Egyptian economy, to acquire basic digital skills.”

Digitizing SME Financing

This partnership complements Banque Misr’s broader strategy to enhance non-financial services and digitize access to funding for SMEs. The bank has already introduced innovative online products, including the “Express Online Loan” and “Online Projects Murabaha,” which are the first digital financing programs of their kind in Egypt.

These products enable customers to apply for project financing online with minimal procedures, significantly reducing processing times. The small project financing loan, for instance, can be obtained within five days of application, marking a significant breakthrough in accelerating access to capital for small businesses across the country.
