Arcapita Group, the Bahrain-based global private equity company, has announced the acquisition of a 21-megawatt data centre in Minneapolis, United States. This move, made in collaboration with data centre investment management firm Cloud Capital, marks a significant expansion of Arcapita’s digital infrastructure portfolio and its focus on the burgeoning AI sector.
A Strategic Push into Digital Infrastructure
The acquisition underscores a pivotal shift in Arcapita’s long-term strategy, with AI and digital infrastructure becoming increasingly important pillars for the firm’s growth.
Martin Tan, Chief Investment Officer at Arcapita, emphasized that this area is a core component of the company’s forward-looking investment thesis.
“Data centres are a cornerstone of the digital economy and a key focus area within our US real estate strategy,” added Brian Hebb, Managing Director and Head of US Real Estate at Arcapita.
Hebb further noted that the company will continue to strengthen its presence in the US market by targeting essential real estate and infrastructure assets that offer a compelling combination of stable cash flows and high growth potential.
Powering Sovereign AI Solutions
The Minneapolis facility is primarily leased on a long-term basis to a provider specializing in sovereign artificial intelligence and cloud inference solutions. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Arcapita has revealed ambitious plans to expand the data centre’s total capacity to 31MW to meet escalating demand.
This acquisition was conducted alongside Cloud Capital, which manages a diversified portfolio of 26 data centre assets valued at over $5.5 billion.
Broadening the US Investment Portfolio
This data centre acquisition is the latest in a series of strategic investments made by Arcapita in the United States. It follows the firm’s majority equity stake acquisition in C&K Paving, a parking lot maintenance company, in September, and its majority stake in Trustpoint. One, a provider of services to law firms, in May.
These varied investments highlight Arcapita’s commitment to building a robust and diversified portfolio of assets across key sectors in the US market.
