In a significant move towards modernizing its public services, the Iraqi government, led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, has launched a comprehensive project to automate property sales and ownership transfers. The initiative will be implemented at the General Directorate of Real Estate Registration within the Ministry of Justice.
This project is a cornerstone of the government’s wider digital transformation agenda, aimed at fostering administrative and financial reform, enhancing transparency, and securing the property rights of citizens across the country.
A Strategic Push for Efficiency
Prime Minister al-Sudani highlighted that the real estate directorate is one of the most frequently visited government offices, handling critical ownership and transfer processes. The new automated system is designed to directly address long-standing issues of bureaucracy.
By shifting from paper-based to electronic systems, the government aims to significantly speed up transaction processing times, reduce the influence of intermediaries, and provide a more streamlined experience for the public.
Strengthening Security and Service Delivery
The successful implementation of this digital system hinges on robust security and continuous improvement. The Prime Minister has instructed relevant authorities to focus on secure completion and storage of all transactions to protect sensitive ownership data.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of continuous system reviews and upgrades, alongside ensuring that staff are adequately trained and qualified to manage the new digital framework effectively.
Fostering Inter-Agency Collaboration
A key component of the project’s success will be its integration with other government bodies. Al-Sudani emphasized the need for seamless electronic linkage with other departments to complete verification and processing procedures efficiently.
He has specifically directed the Ministries of Interior and Finance to accelerate their integration with the new real estate system, creating a more cohesive and responsive governmental infrastructure.
