In a significant move to enhance its digital banking offerings, Emirates NBD Egypt has officially introduced Apple Pay for its customers. The launch provides cardholders with a secure, private, and convenient method for conducting contactless payments, further accelerating the shift towards a cashless economy in the country.
Secure and Seamless Contactless Transactions
Emirates NBD customers can now leverage their iPhone and Apple Watch for a wide range of purchases without needing a physical card or cash. The service streamlines the payment process at physical terminals and online, integrating seamlessly into the daily lives of users.
Each transaction is fortified with robust security features built into Apple devices. Payments are authenticated using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, coupled with a unique one-time dynamic security code. This multi-layered approach ensures that user data remains protected while delivering a swift and frictionless checkout experience.
Driving Widespread Digital Adoption
Apple Pay is widely accepted across Egypt, including at grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, retail outlets, and taxis. The service also simplifies online shopping, allowing users to make faster purchases within apps or on Safari without repeatedly entering shipping and billing details. Payments can be authorized directly from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
The introduction of Apple Pay aligns with Egypt’s broader national strategy to promote digital payment adoption and financial inclusion. This initiative supports the objectives of Egypt’s Vision 2030 by contributing to the development of a secure and modern financial ecosystem. To celebrate the launch, the bank is offering a 50% cashback promotion for customers who transact using the new service.
Privacy and Rewards at the Core
Privacy is a central component of the Apple Pay service. When a customer adds a card, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple’s servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store payment information safely on the device.
Customers can easily set up the service by adding their Emirates NBD credit or debit cards to the Wallet app on their Apple devices. Importantly, users will continue to receive all the rewards and benefits associated with their physical cards, ensuring they don’t miss out on existing loyalty programs.
