Abu Dhabi Bolsters Its AI And Advanced Technology Council With Key Appointments

In a strategic move to advance its technological ambitions, Abu Dhabi has reconstituted its Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC), appointing two new members. The resolution, issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, expands the council’s board to eleven members, reinforcing its role in shaping the emirate’s AI-driven future.

Strengthening Governance and Policy Alignment

This marks the second expansion of the AIATC board since its formation in January 2024, signaling an accelerated effort to ensure policy synergy with Abu Dhabi’s overarching technology plans. The council, which initially comprised six members and was later increased to nine, now adds further expertise to guide the emirate’s strategy. This expansion is seen as a critical step toward achieving the goals of the Abu Dhabi Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027, which aims to establish the world’s first fully AI-native government by 2027.

The New Council Members

The resolution adds two distinguished officials to the council, bringing deep experience in government oversight and enablement:

  • His Excellency Humaid Obaid Abushibs, President of the UAE Accountability Authority.
  • His Excellency Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi, and a board member of the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC).

The Reconstituted Council Leadership

The AIATC continues under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Chairman and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice-Chairman. All incumbent members remain, forming a powerful assembly of the UAE’s top figures in investment, technology, and finance. The other members include H.E. Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mubarak bin Nawi Al Mazrouei, H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, H.E. Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, H.E. Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, H.E. Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, and Peng Xiao.
