The Abu Dhabi government has introduced a groundbreaking digital service that allows couples from anywhere in the world to get legally married online. The initiative, accessible through the unified government services platform TAMM, enables a fully remote civil marriage process and was unveiled during the GITEX Global 2025 technology conference in Dubai.
A Fully Digitalized Civil Marriage Process
For a fee of 800 dirhams ($218), couples can manage their entire marriage application without setting foot in the emirate. The service allows users to complete online forms, submit the required documentation, book an officiant, and even organize a virtual ceremony. According to project officials, the streamlined process can be completed in as little as 24 hours, representing a significant step in the digitalization of key government services.
Global Accessibility For Residents And Non-Residents
The online marriage service is available to Emirati citizens, foreign residents, and non-residents alike. While residents can use the platform directly, non-residents will need to appoint a lawyer or a legal representative within the country to facilitate the process. This move builds on the UAE’s position as the only Gulf country that permits non-religious civil marriages for its foreign population, now extending this accessibility to a global audience.
Part Of A Broader E-Government Transformation
This new feature is part of a major expansion of the TAMM platform, which now offers over 1,100 public and private services. The update includes the launch of TAMM AutoGov, which uses a transactional AI public servant to create a more proactive and personalized user experience. The AI assistant can remind users of upcoming deadlines, renewals, and other relevant tasks. His Excellency Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement, described the launch as transformative, stating, “With the world’s first transactional AI public servant, Abu Dhabi is showing the world what anticipatory government looks like.”
