In a move that strengthens the bridge between academia and community wellness, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has been named an Official Supporting Partner for the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 (OMGAD 2026). This strategic collaboration aligns with the UAE’s national vision for fostering active, healthy, and age-inclusive communities by translating academic research into tangible public health initiatives.
A Strategic Alliance for Community Wellbeing
Abu Dhabi University’s participation in the major multi-sport event, scheduled for 6–15 February 2026, demonstrates a significant commitment to the nation’s strategic priorities. The partnership directly supports the goals of the Abu Dhabi Sports Vision 2040 and the UAE National Sports Strategy 2031, showcasing how higher education institutions can play a pivotal role in advancing public health and community engagement. The OMGAD 2026 is expected to gather tens of thousands of participants across more than 20 venues, including Hudayriyat Island, ADNEC, and Zayed Sports City.
Activating Health and Knowledge
ADU will lead a major on-ground activation at Hudayriyat Island, spearheaded by its College of Health Sciences. This initiative will provide practical, science-backed resources to the community, including health screenings, interactive workshops on active ageing, and educational sessions. The activities are designed to translate ADU’s clinical expertise into actionable guidance for older adults, families, and community groups on topics like mobility preservation, nutrition, and habits that promote a longer healthspan. ADU also invites the public to its ADNEC community hub for demonstrations and learning opportunities.
From Research to Community Impact
Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, highlighted the practical application of the university’s mission through this partnership.
“Abu Dhabi University sees the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 as an opportunity to put research into action for our communities. By mobilising our College of Health Sciences and working alongside government and community partners, we will deliver science-backed practical, inclusive activities that empower residents to adopt healthier, more active lives, supporting the Emirate’s long-term vision for healthy ageing and a more active society.”
