The Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University has concluded an intensive entrepreneurial skills training program for its students, organized in collaboration with Egypt’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA). The initiative reflects a growing focus within Egyptian academic institutions on fostering a new generation of business leaders and innovators.
The two-day complimentary course provided 12 hours of intensive training, aimed at equipping university youth with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the modern job market and launch their own ventures. The program was conducted under the patronage of the university’s president, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abidin, and the faculty’s dean, Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel Metwally.
University And Government Partnership To Empower Youth
Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel Metwally expressed her enthusiasm for the innovative student projects presented during the program, highlighting the collaboration between the university and state institutions as a key driver for youth empowerment. She emphasized that such partnerships are crucial for bridging the gap between academic knowledge and the practical demands of the Egyptian labor market.
Praising the pivotal role of MSMEDA in supporting freelance work and entrepreneurship in Egypt, Prof. Dr. Metwally noted that the state is actively working to create a stimulating environment for innovation. She added that initiatives like this are a fundamental pillar in achieving sustainable economic development by encouraging creative and production-based student projects.
Building Foundational Entrepreneurial Skills
The curriculum, delivered by senior MSMEDA officials, focused on the core tenets of successful entrepreneurship. Wafaa El-Sayed, Senior Director at MSMEDA, guided students through the fundamentals of entrepreneurial thinking, the characteristics of a successful founder, and the importance of rigorous market analysis, feasibility studies, and defining a competitive advantage.
Remih Abdel Hasib Remih, Director of the Cairo Office at MSMEDA, detailed the practical steps of transforming an idea into a sustainable business. His sessions covered financial and technical feasibility studies, choosing the right legal structure, and managing financing and risk. The training also addressed essential soft skills, including time management, decision-making, and developing effective marketing strategies.
Cultivating a Culture of Self-Reliance
A central theme of the program was the promotion of a new culture based on self-reliance and the ability to convert creative ideas into tangible economic opportunities. Trainers stressed that many of Egypt’s most successful ventures began with simple steps, growing through persistence and innovation—a mindset the university aims to instill in its student body.
The program concluded with a ceremony where Prof. Dr. Metwally honored the MSMEDA trainers for their contribution and awarded certificates to the participating students who demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurial aptitude.
