Challenge Overview
The Hitachi eMobility Startup Challenge 2026 is designed for founders ready to work hands-on with an enterprise partner on a real pilot. Hitachi seeks to partner with world-class innovators to transform the way we connect, move, and optimize transportation from grid to wheel.
Up to 10 high-potential startups will be selected to present their solutions to senior Hitachi leaders at a Pitch Day in London on February 25, 2026. From this group, up to 3 winners will be chosen to co-design and pursue Proof of Concepts (PoCs), unlocking new commercial opportunities within Hitachi’s global ecosystem.
Focus Areas
Hitachi is specifically looking for solutions that address two core themes:
- Theme 1: Innovation in Fleet Electrification
- Focus on charging infrastructure, depot optimization, energy orchestration, fleet analytics, EMS, and new electrification business models.
- Theme 2: Battery Lifecycle Management & Manufacturing
- Focus on battery intelligence, traceability, yield optimization, advanced automation, recycling, and second-life applications.

- PoC Funding: Winners may secure funding through Hitachi’s internal investment pathways to develop in-market pilots, ranging from early feasibility to larger-scale deployments.
- Executive Access: Pitch directly to decision-makers from Hitachi Rail, Hitachi Energy, Hitachi ZeroCarbon, and more.
- Mentorship: Receive support from Rainmaking’s innovation team and collaboration with Hitachi business units.

Eligibility Criteria
This challenge is for startups that are ready to deploy:
- Deployable Product: You must have a solution that can be tested in an in-market PoC with an enterprise customer.
- Collaborative Team: You must be ready to co-design, scope, and test solutions closely with Hitachi experts.
- Strategic Fit: Your solution must align with fleet electrification or battery lifecycle innovation.
