The Arab League is putting the final touches on a new, modern investment agreement designed to integrate the region’s digital economy and remove barriers for investors. The announcement was made by Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who described the forthcoming pact as a foundational element that will drive intra-Arab investment once ratified.

A Modern Framework for a Digital Future

Speaking at the “Ripple 2025 Summit” for supporting entrepreneurship centers in Arab universities, Aboul Gheit explained that the new agreement is designed to align with the latest global economic trends. It will specifically incorporate key principles of sustainable development, the knowledge economy, and the digital economy. A central objective of the pact is to streamline processes and systematically remove obstacles that currently hinder investors across the Arab world.

Fostering Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Aboul Gheit stressed that supporting investment is key to securing a better future, calling it the primary driver for increasing productivity, creating high-quality jobs, and facilitating modern technology transfer. He highlighted that entrepreneurship programs have become essential engines for economic growth and are indispensable for tackling development challenges like unemployment. The Secretary-General praised the role of the private sector and Arab financial institutions in creating an attractive environment for long-term investment and urged for a greater focus on nurturing startup ecosystems and fostering creativity within Arab universities, which are rich with human capital and brilliant minds.

Building a Unified Arab Economic Bloc

This initiative is part of the Arab League’s broader strategy to enhance economic cooperation among its member states. The ultimate ambition is to establish a strong and influential Arab economic bloc on the global stage. Aboul Gheit emphasized that regional integration is the most effective path toward building a powerful and efficient entrepreneurship ecosystem that can compete internationally and drive sustainable development across the MENA region.
