The British University in Egypt (BUE), in collaboration with the British Council Partner Schools network, has launched the Business & Entrepreneurship Competition, a major initiative aimed at embedding entrepreneurial skills in school students from a young age.
Quick Facts
- Initiative targets students from ages 7 to 12.
- The competition drew nearly 1,000 initial participants.
- Focuses on project-based, practical learning.
- 50 finalists representing 10 projects reached the final stage.
Cultivating an Entrepreneurial Mindset Early
The competition, organized by BUE’s Faculty of Business Administration, Economics and Political Science and the Center for Continuing Education, is designed to move beyond theoretical knowledge. It introduces school-age children to the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship, aiming to develop a creative mindset capable of critical thinking and problem-solving from the ground up.
Dr. Hadia Fakhr El-Din, Dean of the Faculty, highlighted the program’s importance in giving students an early opportunity to turn ideas into viable projects through interactive workshops and mentorship. The goal is to build their confidence and practical skills.
A Practice-Based Approach to Innovation
The competition follows a hands-on, practice-based learning model. Students were organized into teams of up to five and tasked with developing real-world projects, navigating various competitive stages to refine their ideas. This structure pushes participants to apply concepts directly, fostering skills in teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
“The competition is an integrated model of practice-based education, allowing students to apply theoretical concepts to real projects,” explained Dr. Ahmed Darwish, Dean of the Center for Continuing Education at BUE.
Aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030
The initiative directly supports Egypt’s strategic development goals by nurturing a new generation of innovators and leaders. Professor Mohamed Loutfi, President of BUE, stated that investing in student skills is a top priority for the university.
“These initiatives support the state’s directives and the achievement of Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals by preparing qualified cadres who possess innovation and entrepreneurship skills, capable of competing in the job market locally and internationally,” said Professor Loutfi. He added that the program reflects the university’s commitment to applied education and international partnerships.
