Cairo International Airport has introduced “Maryam,” an interactive virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence, in a significant move towards digitizing the travel experience. The initiative, a collaboration between The Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) and Orange Egypt, aims to provide travelers with a seamless and enriched journey through the airport.
A Smart Companion for Travelers
Named “Maryam,” the AI assistant is designed to be an intelligent digital companion for passengers, communicating fluently in both Arabic and English. Deployed on modern Smart Interactive Devices (SIDs) throughout the airport, Maryam offers instant access to crucial information. Travelers can now receive real-time answers to inquiries about flight schedules, arrival and departure procedures, and the locations of various facilities and services within the airport. The assistant also guides users on transportation options, including taxis and limousines, and provides information on nearby tourist attractions, ensuring a smoother overall travel experience.
Driving Egypt’s Digital Transformation
The launch of “Maryam” is a key component of EHCAAN’s integrated digital transformation strategy and aligns with Egypt’s broader national agenda to adopt smart technologies. This project represents a commitment to leveraging cutting-edge solutions to improve operational efficiency and elevate the passenger experience to global standards. “The launch of ‘Ask Maryam’ at Cairo International Airport is a milestone in our journey toward full digital transformation,” stated Eng. Aiman Arab, Chairman of EHCAAN.
Expansion Plans on the Horizon
This initiative marks just the beginning of a wider rollout of smart airport solutions across the country. EHCAAN has confirmed plans to expand the service to other Egyptian airports in the near future. The next phase will see the introduction of the AI assistant at Sphinx International Airport, timed strategically to coincide with the highly anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, further enhancing the visitor experience for one of the country’s most significant cultural landmarks.
