Careem Pay, the digital payments platform within the super app, has significantly expanded its international remittance service with major launches targeting Egypt, Lebanon, and the Philippines. The move makes it easier for UAE residents to send money abroad, supporting families and managing finances across key corridors.
Careem Pay now facilitates money transfers to over 35 countries, including major markets like India, Pakistan, Canada, the UK, and several European nations. The service is designed to be a fast and secure method for cross-border financial support, with some transfers completed in seconds.
Targeting Key Remittance Corridors
For Egypt, UAE residents can now transfer up to AED 8,000 per transaction directly to all major mobile wallets, including Vodafone Cash, Orange Money, and any wallet on the Meeza Network. The funds, sent in Egyptian Pounds (EGP), are expected to arrive within 30 minutes.
In Lebanon, Careem Pay has partnered with Whish Money to enable cash pickups in USD. Customers can send up to AED 8,000 per transaction, and beneficiaries can collect the cash within minutes from over 1,000 locations across the country.
The service for the Philippines has also been enhanced. A direct integration with GCash allows for wallet transfers of up to AED 6,000 to be completed in under 10 minutes. Additionally, cash pickup is now available at 14,750 locations nationwide for transfers up to AED 8,000.
Addressing Specific Market Needs
Mohammad El Saadi, VP of Careem Pay, highlighted the strategic rationale behind the expansion, noting that the new services address specific market demands.
“We’re excited to expand our remittance offering with services that address real customer needs. Egypt’s mobile wallet adoption is soaring, especially among younger users. Lebanon’s banking crisis means people need reliable ways to send USD for cash pickup. And for the Philippines, one of the world’s largest remittance corridors, we’ve dramatically improved speed with our direct GCash integration while adding essential cash pickup options,” El Saadi commented.
The UAE-Egypt remittance market is valued at approximately $8.1 billion annually, while the UAE-Philippines corridor is estimated at around $3.5 billion. In Lebanon, the ongoing liquidity crisis has eroded trust in traditional banking, making reliable cash pickup services critical for the population.
