Careem Pay, the fintech arm of the Dubai-based super app, has announced a new partnership with Philippine digital wallet provider GCash to facilitate seamless cross-border remittances. The collaboration aims to significantly improve how Filipino expatriates in the United Arab Emirates send money back home.
A Direct Digital Bridge
Formalised at Careem’s Dubai headquarters, the agreement integrates the two platforms to enable direct wallet-to-wallet money transfers. This integration allows UAE-based users to bypass the delays and complexities of conventional bank transfers and the inconvenience of visiting physical remittance centres.
Funds sent through the Careem application are credited directly to the recipient’s GCash account, with transactions typically clearing within minutes. This provides a faster, more efficient, and more reliable method for transferring funds.
Enhancing Financial Lifelines
The service is designed to support the large Filipino community in the Middle East, for whom remittances are a vital economic lifeline. In addition to direct wallet transfers, the collaboration expands receiving options by providing cash pickup services at nearly 15,000 locations across the Philippines.
“For many Filipino expats, it’s about supporting loved ones, covering school fees, or helping parents with everyday expenses,” stated Arjun Varma, General Manager for GCash International, highlighting the real-world impact of the partnership.
A Simplified User Experience
To initiate a transfer, users simply need to download the Careem application and navigate to the ‘Send Abroad’ option within the payment interface.
Mohammad El Saadi, Vice President of Careem Pay, emphasised that linking directly with GCash significantly streamlines the cross-border payment experience. He noted that this direct connection provides a more dependable service for families receiving funds in the Philippines.
