du, the UAE-based telecommunications operator, has announced a significant move into the digital asset space with the launch of ‘Cloud Miner,’ a new cloud-based Bitcoin mining service. The initiative, part of the company’s new sub-brand du Tech, aims to make cryptocurrency mining accessible to UAE residents without the need for specialised hardware or deep technical knowledge.
Making Crypto Mining Mainstream
The Cloud Miner service allows users to rent computational power directly from du’s extensive network of data centres across the UAE through a subscription-based model. This model effectively removes traditional barriers to entry for crypto mining, such as high electricity consumption, complex equipment setup, and ongoing maintenance.
Subscribers can begin mining operations immediately after signing up. The service offers a capacity of 250 TH/s (terahashes per second) under 24-month contracts. Bidding for these contracts is set to take place on Online Auction from November 3 to 9, providing a transparent method for securing mining capacity.
A Regulated and Secure Entry Point
Emphasising trust and security, du has built the Cloud Miner platform to be fully compliant with Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. The service integrates UAE Pass for seamless identity verification and employs two-factor authentication to secure user accounts.
“With the launch of Cloud Miner, our cloud mining as a service, we aim to offer an easy entry point into the world of cryptocurrency whilst leveraging du’s reputation for reliability, transparency, and security,” said Jasim AlAwadi, Chief ICT Officer at du.

This launch positions du as the first telecommunications operator in the UAE to introduce a dedicated cloud mining as a service platform. The company marked this strategic entry into the crypto ecosystem with a high-profile launch event at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which featured a commemorative laser show.
