Dubai Municipality has launched the “Smart Municipality Eye” initiative, an advanced aerial monitoring system set to revolutionize urban management through unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and artificial intelligence. The project aims to create a smart, mobile oversight system for the city’s vast green spaces, enabling predictive maintenance and enhancing Dubai’s sustainability efforts.
A Shift to Predictive Maintenance
Through the Smart Municipality Eye, a fleet of drones will conduct aerial and field mapping across Dubai’s extensive 52 million square metres of green spaces. The system leverages AI-powered platforms to analyze vegetation health, detect potential irrigation issues, and identify pest-related concerns in real-time.
This data-driven approach marks a significant shift from reactive problem-solving to predictive maintenance. By processing forward-looking urban data, the municipality can address challenges before they escalate, ensuring the long-term health, sustainability, and resilience of Dubai’s green infrastructure.
Strategic Partnership with Eanan Al Samma
To bolster the initiative, Dubai Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eanan Al Samma for Remote-Controlled Aircraft Manufacturing. The agreement, signed during Urban Future Week at the Museum of the Future, establishes a framework for joint cooperation in developing and deploying innovative drone technologies for municipal, field, and inspection operations.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, commented on the collaboration, stating, “This collaboration with Eanan Al Samma represents an advanced step in positioning Dubai Municipality as a proactive leader supported by artificial intelligence and drone technologies… We are not merely planting trees; we are designing and preserving Dubai’s environmental and visual identity with precision.”
His Excellency Rashid Hamdan bin Khadim Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Eanan Al Samma, added, “This agreement reflects our shared commitment to developing innovative technological projects and intelligent systems that align with Dubai’s future vision, enhance operational efficiency, and improve quality of life.”
