Breadfast, a leading Egyptian e-commerce platform for groceries and daily essentials, has announced the launch of a comprehensive internal safety program for its delivery riders across the country. This strategic initiative reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening occupational safety standards and proactively addressing the daily operational risks faced by its fleet.
A Proactive Approach to Rider Safety
The new program marks a significant shift from a reactive risk management approach to a proactive, preventive model. By implementing an integrated package of safety measures, Breadfast aims to foster a culture of safe and responsible driving, safeguarding its riders who are central to the company’s success. The initial phase will concentrate on cities with the highest operational density to ensure maximum effectiveness before a nationwide expansion.
Commenting on the launch, Mohamed Habib, Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer at Breadfast, stated, “Breadfast places riders’ safety at the heart of its priorities and operational standards, as they are the backbone of our daily success. Through this program, we aim to shift from a reactive risk management approach to a proactive preventive model that safeguards our people and elevates safety standards across Egypt’s delivery sector.”
Habib added, “We are committed to building an integrated system that embeds safety within our daily delivery standards, directly enhancing the continuity and reliability of the service we provide to our customers.”
Multi-Faceted Program Components
The initiative is built on several key pillars to provide holistic protection. Breadfast will distribute certified safety helmets specifically designed for impact resistance and ventilation during long working hours, with usage incorporated into daily inspection procedures.
Furthermore, the company has activated comprehensive medical and social insurance coverage in collaboration with Nextcare. This ensures riders have full protection against work-related accidents and injuries, providing prompt access to high-quality medical care when needed. To enhance professional competence, all riders will be enrolled in continuous training programs focused on defensive driving, road risk awareness, and full compliance with traffic regulations.
Setting a New Standard
By leveraging a precise system for monitoring and tracking incidents and “near-misses,” Breadfast’s health and safety teams can identify and address operational gaps, continuously improving safety protocols. This data-driven approach allows for more informed decision-making, reinforcing the company’s position as a leader in operational excellence and responsibility. The program not only aims to reduce accident rates but also enhances compliance with Egyptian labor and occupational health regulations, setting a new benchmark for the rapid delivery sector.
