Egyptian clean-infrastructure company engazaat has been named the winner of the Disruptive Duo for Market Innovation Award at the Egypt Entrepreneur Awards (EEA) 2025. The award recognizes its impactful, cross-sector partnership with Nestlé aimed at building a reliable, low-carbon, and locally anchored sourcing ecosystem.
A Partnership for Sustainable Sourcing
The award-winning collaboration began in 2024 when Nestlé sought an Egyptian partner to supply sustainably produced agricultural inputs while enhancing water and energy efficiency across its operations and farmer network. engazaat’s innovative model, which removes capital hurdles and delivers clean infrastructure as a service, proved to be the ideal solution.
With Nestlé sponsoring the initiative to meet its global ESG and regenerative agriculture goals, engazaat has designed and delivered a tailored program that has already trained over 650 farmers and agricultural professionals. The program aims to train over 5,000 farmers within the next five years, establishing a sourcing system grounded in local production rather than imported inputs.
Muhammad El Demerdash, Co-Founder and CEO of engazaat, said: “Through our partnership with Nestlé, engazaat is deploying 5 MW of solar infrastructure, managing and treating water at up to 95% efficiency, and extending regenerative agriculture support to Nestlé’s farmer network across Cairo, Alexandria, the Delta, and Upper Egypt. These results show what happens when infrastructure is designed around real constraints, namely affordability, reliability, and the needs of the people who keep supply chains running.”
El Demerdash added, “EEA’s recognition is a culmination of dedication to building systems that make clean energy, water efficiency, and regenerative agriculture accessible to farmers and industries alike. As we grow across the region and globally, our focus revolves around building infrastructure that supports livelihoods and anchors sourcing in reliable, local production.”
Democratizing Clean Infrastructure
engazaat’s core mission is to democratize access to sustainable resources by removing upfront capital and technical barriers for both companies and farmers. Its unique subscription-based model utilizes Pay-As-You-Go and Buy-Now-Pay-Later financing, eliminating the need for initial investment.
This model allows farmers to seamlessly upgrade to modern systems, replacing diesel with solar power, cutting waste with smart irrigation, and ultimately boosting productivity while lowering operating costs. The company’s contributions were previously highlighted by Egypt’s Ministry of Planning during COP27, bringing national visibility to its approach.
From National Impact to Regional Expansion
To date, engazaat manages over 15 million cubic meters of water annually, operates 63 MW of developed solar capacity, and has delivered over USD 70 million in Water-Energy-Food projects. Its portfolio includes landmark developments such as Egypt’s largest off-grid desert reclamation project and one of the region’s largest industrial rooftop solar installations.
Following its sustained growth in Egypt, engazaat is now expanding its operations across the Middle East and Africa, with new operations established in Lebanon and Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).
