The Italian non-profit organization CHIES – Egypt for South-South International Cooperation, has announced the signing of partnership agreements with 43 civil society organizations (CSOs) across Egypt. This collaboration marks the launch of a strategic program designed to build capacity and support business development centers, with a core mission to socially and economically empower women and youth.

EU-Backed Initiative for Empowerment

This comprehensive program is a key component of the “LEWASE – Leadership and Empowerment for Women’s Access to the Socio-Economic Sector” project, which is financed by the European Union. The initiative targets some of Egypt’s most populous governorates, including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, and New Valley, aiming to drive significant social and economic progress.

Strategic Capacity Building for Leaders

The program focuses on preparing community leaders to create a lasting impact by strengthening the organizational capabilities of the partner CSOs. It will initially engage 65 participants, including heads, board members, and staff from registered organizations in Cairo.

The curriculum covers a wide range of essential skills critical for the success of community-led initiatives, including strategic project planning, entrepreneurship, developing business service centers, stakeholder engagement, marketing, digital skills, and business English.

Driving Sustainable Community Change

Dr. Rita Menyhert, the representative of CHIES in Egypt, expressed deep satisfaction with the program’s initial achievements in Cairo, highlighting the organization’s dedication to building a stronger civil society.

“This partnership and training are vital steps towards enabling NGOs to lead transformational change in their communities, especially for women and youth,” said Dr. Menyhert. “We are proud to support the leaders who are at the forefront of development in Egyptian society.”

She further emphasized that CHIES’s commitment extends beyond immediate empowerment to investing in the long-term capacity and sustainability of local NGOs. By promoting entrepreneurship and offering targeted training, the initiative directly addresses unemployment, equipping women and youth with practical skills and connecting them to viable work opportunities.
