The Sharqia branch of Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) is implementing a series of training programs designed to enhance financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills among women and girls in rural areas. The initiative aims to empower a total of 210 participants across several villages, fostering economic independence and community development.
Fostering Financial Independence
Dr. Aida Attia, head of the NCW’s Sharqia branch, announced that two financial literacy courses were conducted from February 21 to 25, targeting 60 women in the villages of Al-Halabi and Hussein Taymour. The curriculum focused on critical financial skills, including personal budget creation, various savings methods, and strategies for selecting appropriate financial tools based on individual goals. Participants also learned about financing options, loans, and how to effectively engage with financial and insurance institutions.
Cultivating Entrepreneurial Skills
In addition to financial training, the council is resuming its entrepreneurship program with six new training courses for 150 women and girls. These sessions are being held in the villages of Al-Jadida, Bani Hilal, Mit Yazid, Al-Saadiyin, Al-Sanafin, and Sanhout. The training guides participants through the entire process of launching a micro-enterprise, from selecting a viable project idea to preparing a simplified feasibility study and mastering the fundamentals of project management. The program also provides essential information on different sources and methods of funding.
A National Vision For Economic Empowerment
According to Dr. Attia, these courses are part of an integrated plan to raise the economic awareness of rural women and boost their participation in the workforce. This effort aligns with the national goals of achieving family stability and community development within villages targeted by the “Hayah Karima” (Decent Life) presidential initiative.
Hazem El-Ashmouny, the Governor of Sharqia, affirmed the state’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment as a cornerstone of sustainable development. He praised the NCW’s role in delivering high-impact programs that build women’s capacity to improve their livelihoods and manage their resources effectively.
