The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in a significant collaboration with the historic Al-Sinnari House and the Decent Life Foundation, has announced the latest series of workshops under the “Sir Al-San’a” (Secret of the Craft) initiative. Scheduled to begin on October 5, 2025, in Cairo, the program is designed to empower Egyptian women by building their capabilities in traditional handicrafts and modern entrepreneurship.

Fostering Economic Independence Through Craftsmanship

The core of the initiative is a series of free, intensive training workshops for a select group of women. This round will focus on the crafts of plastic canvas art and “Tally” embroidery, aiming to equip participants with valuable professional skills. The program is structured to not only preserve traditional crafts but also to open new avenues for employment and create a direct pathway for women to enter the workforce with a unique skill set.

A Curriculum Blending Artistry And Business

Beyond the hands-on craft training, the initiative places a strong emphasis on entrepreneurial development. The curriculum is designed to provide participants with the essential skills needed to establish and manage their own small businesses. This includes training on project ideation, management fundamentals, and raising awareness about the role of innovation in supporting sustainable development. The goal is to help women transform their creative passion into profitable commercial ventures.

Program Details And Eligibility

The fully-funded workshops will be held at the Al-Sinnari House in Cairo over six sessions on October 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, and 16. The program is exclusively for women between the ages of 20 and 50 who are residents of the Cairo governorate. Prospective applicants must demonstrate a passion for learning heritage crafts and a clear desire to turn that passion into a business. Full commitment to attending all morning sessions is a mandatory requirement for participation.

About The Sir Al-San’a Initiative

Launched in 2024 by the Decent Life Foundation, the “Sir Al-San’a” initiative aims to support the economic empowerment of women and promote the growth of small enterprises and handicrafts. Through partnerships with key cultural and academic institutions, the initiative works to develop community, create new job opportunities, and preserve Egyptian heritage by equipping female artisans with the skills for both craft and commerce.
