New Assiut Technological University recently concluded its “Startup Sprint” Hackathon, an initiative designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurial skills among its students. The event was organized by the university’s Entrepreneurship Club in collaboration with the Athar business accelerator and supported by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. The hackathon served as a key platform for discovering new talent and connecting promising ideas with practical, real-world applications.
Fostering a Culture of Innovation
Dr. Gamal Tag Abdel-Gaber, President of the university, emphasized that the hackathon reflects the innovative spirit the institution aims to cultivate. He described the event not just as a competition, but as a genuine opportunity to uncover talent, stimulate creative thinking, and bridge the gap between academic concepts and the business world. Dr. Tag praised the efforts of the student-led Entrepreneurship Club, highlighting the university’s strong belief in entrepreneurship and its commitment to supporting events that unlock students’ potential to become future leaders.
From Idea to Enterprise
The hackathon attracted significant participation, with 80 students developing more than 30 entrepreneurial project ideas. According to Dr. Alaa Abdel Shafi, Director of the Entrepreneurship Club, the projects spanned various stages of development, from initial concepts and ready-made prototypes to fully operational startups. He stressed the importance of promoting an entrepreneurial mindset among youth, noting that student-led startups are crucial for supporting the national economy, creating new job opportunities, and providing sustainable solutions to reduce unemployment.
A Diverse Range of Tech Solutions
Participating teams presented innovative solutions aimed at addressing key societal challenges with a focus on sustainability and technology. The projects covered a wide spectrum of high-growth sectors, including:
- Technology & Software: Artificial Intelligence, FinTech, and mobile applications.
- Renewable Energy: Solar, wind, and other sustainable energy solutions.
- Manufacturing & Food Security: Smart agriculture and food-tech innovations.
- Health & MedTech: HealthTech platforms, smart medical devices, and remote care.
- E-commerce: Digital stores, payment solutions, and logistics services.
- Digital Education: Online learning platforms and interactive AR tools.
- Digital Media & Entertainment: Video content, podcasts, and gaming.
