Egyptian youth teams have showcased the nation’s rising tech talent on the global stage, securing an impressive 68 awards at the Afro-Asian Forum for Innovation and Technology (AAFFIAT). The event, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 17-19, 2025, saw Egypt’s delegation win 19 first-place prizes across software, cybersecurity, mobile applications, entrepreneurship, and robotics. This achievement underscores Egypt’s growing prominence as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
The exceptional performance is a direct result of extensive preparation led by the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. This initiative is part of a broader national strategy focused on discovering and nurturing gifted youth across Egypt, equipping them with critical digital-age skills.
A Landmark Achievement on the Global Stage
The Egyptian delegation, consisting of 169 participants aged 6 to 22 from 12 governorates, was a significant presence at the forum, which hosted a total of 419 competitors from 12 countries. The teams’ success in securing 68 top-three placements is a testament to the depth of talent being cultivated throughout the country, from major cities like Cairo and Alexandria to governorates such as Qena and Luxor.
Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, commented that this success reflects the effectiveness of the ministry’s strategy to empower young Egyptians to excel in advanced technology fields. He also announced that Egypt has been chosen to host the 2026 forum in Aswan, further solidifying its position as a center for regional and international innovation.
Nurturing Talent Through National Strategy
The journey to the forum was a rigorous one. Dr. Ahmed Khattab, Director of the NTI and head of the Egyptian delegation, explained that the teams underwent over seven months of preparation. This included three national qualification stages with more than 1,500 students participating. The training focused on developing high-level skills in artificial intelligence, software development, robotics, and entrepreneurship, all aligned with international standards.
Minister Talaat highlighted the successful collaboration between the NTI and Telecom Egypt (WE) as a model for synergy between state institutions and the private sector to foster innovation. He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuing its programs to develop a globally competitive digital workforce that can contribute to building the national digital economy.
Beyond Awards: Unlocking International Opportunities
The victory extended beyond the awards themselves, with several teams securing significant international opportunities. The winners of the best entrepreneurial project award received complimentary memberships and an invitation to showcase their projects at GITEX Kazakhstan. Other opportunities included international training programs with global corporations and partial scholarships to universities in Europe and the United States, providing a clear pathway for continued growth and development.
