The fourth edition of GITEX Africa is officially set to return to Marrakech from April 7 to 9, 2026, setting a new benchmark for the continent’s premier tech and startup gathering. Morocco’s Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, announced that the upcoming event will host over 1,450 exhibiting companies and startups, drawing 400 global investors managing more than $350 billion in assets. Expected to attract upwards of 50,000 attendees from over 130 countries, the event highlights Morocco’s aggressive push to anchor Africa’s digital economy.

Quick Facts

  • Over 1,450 exhibiting companies and startups expected.

  • 400 international investors managing $350 billion in assets.

  • “Morocco 300” initiative will showcase 300 local startups.

Shifting Focus Toward Strategic Tech Infrastructure

During a press conference in Rabat, Minister Seghrouchni emphasized that GITEX Africa has evolved past a traditional tech exhibition. It now operates as a global strategic platform bringing together policymakers, venture capitalists, and founders.

Discussions and showcases for the 2026 edition will center heavily on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, fintech, and smart cities.

Richard Broocke, Deputy General Manager of GITEX Africa Morocco, noted that the event is organized in direct partnership with the Moroccan government. Operating under the theme “Africa in Partnership with the World,” the 2026 edition aims to align government entities and private enterprises to keep pace with rapid technological advancements, particularly in AI.

The “Morocco 300” Initiative and VC Funding Growth

A major focal point of the 2026 edition is the expanded “Morocco 300” initiative, which will sponsor the participation of 300 Moroccan startups representing 32 cities across the Kingdom. This marks a 50% increase in local startup representation compared to the previous edition.

The emphasis on local founders is yielding measurable financial outcomes. Officials noted that the platform has become a critical pipeline for venture capital, allowing startups from previous editions to secure significant funding and push products to market.

Both the Minister and Broocke highlighted a recent success case where a returning startup successfully raised $15 million in funding directly facilitated by connections made at the event.

Expanding International and Pan-African Participation

The scale of international involvement is also broadening. Broocke revealed that 11 new country pavilions will debut at the 2026 event, including representations from Thailand and the Czech Republic. The platform continues to attract a strong pan-African presence, with growing participation from startup ecosystems like Senegal and Tunisia.

Amine El Mzoughi, General Director of the Digital Development Agency (ADD), stated that the event serves as a strategic lever to position Morocco as a continental leader in digital transformation.

By shining a spotlight on both Moroccan and African startups, the gathering aims to generate tangible investment opportunities while validating digital tech as a core driver for regional economic development.
