Google has announced a significant update to its no-code app, Opal, introducing a new feature that allows users to create and execute automated workflows through simple text prompts. This development integrates a sophisticated agent powered by the Gemini 3 Flash model, designed to streamline complex tasks without requiring any technical expertise.
How Agentic Workflows Function in Opal
The new agent inside Opal empowers users to build mini-apps that can independently plan and execute tasks. By leveraging the Gemini 3 Flash model, the agent can automatically select the appropriate tools needed for a given workflow. For example, it can utilize Google Sheets to maintain memory across different sessions, such as managing a shopping list for an e-commerce application.
A key aspect of this feature is its interactive nature. The agent is designed to communicate with the user, requesting additional information or presenting choices for the next steps when necessary. This conversational approach allows users without a coding background to construct intricate and powerful workflows within their custom-built applications.
From Vibe-Coding to Global No-Code Platform
Opal first launched for users in the United States in July 2025, positioned as a “vibe-coding” tool that enables anyone to create or remix web apps. Following its initial release, Google rapidly expanded Opal’s availability, rolling it out to 15 more countries in October 2025, including major markets like Canada, India, and Singapore.
A month later, the tool became accessible in over 160 countries. In a further integration, Google added Opal to the Gemini web app in December, providing a visual editor for users to create custom applications without writing a single line of code.
Relevance for the MENA Tech Ecosystem
The evolution of no-code platforms like Opal holds significant implications for the MENA startup landscape. For early-stage founders and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in the region, such tools can dramatically lower the barrier to entry for building digital products. The ability to create automated workflows and functional web apps via simple text prompts can accelerate the development of minimum viable products (MVPs), allowing entrepreneurs to test ideas and gain market feedback without substantial investment in technical talent.
This democratization of technology empowers non-technical founders and business professionals across MENA to innovate and digitize their operations more efficiently, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic ecosystem.
