The third cohort of the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator Project (GGJAP) in Egypt has officially concluded, marking the end of a five-month initiative dedicated to helping SMEs integrate more sustainable business practices. The program, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with Flat6Labs and New Silk Roads, provided tailored support, mentorship workshops, and self-paced courses to empower a new generation of green enterprises.
Spotlight on Green Innovators
A key highlight of the closing event, held at Ghurnata Community Space, was the pitch session where six participating SMEs showcased their innovative green solutions and progress.
The startups presenting included MAESC – مايسك, Cultivech, Bayt Alkhyata – بيت الخياطة, EgyMag, Leedana, and Papero. These companies are actively developing solutions that contribute to a more sustainable economic landscape in Egypt. The evening also featured an engaging marketplace, allowing guests and potential partners to get a closer look at the products and services offered by the cohort.
Bridging Capital and Sustainability
To facilitate crucial connections, the event hosted an Investor Mixer that brought the SMEs face-to-face with angel investors, VCs, banks, international organizations, NGOs, and foreign direct investment (FDI) representatives. This provided a direct platform for the startups to explore future investment and strategic partnership opportunities.
Furthering the conversation on sustainable finance, the event included a panel titled “Financing for the Future: Powering the Green Economy,” which featured insights from prominent ecosystem leaders on funding mechanisms and support systems for green businesses.
A Collaborative Ecosystem Effort
The success of the GGJAP cohort was bolstered by the strong support of its diverse partners. Key contributors included the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), National Bank of Egypt, Banque du Caire, GLA & Co., and Vodafone Business Egypt. Their involvement underscores a growing, multi-stakeholder commitment to fostering a greener and more resilient private sector in the country.
