Planys Technologies, a Hub71 startup and a leader in deep-tech underwater robotics, has successfully raised approximately $12 million in a primary funding round aimed at powering its global expansion with a strategic focus on the Middle East.
The round was led by marquee investors Ashish Kacholia and Lashit Sanghvi. It also saw participation from existing investors, including Pratithi Investment, Samarthya Investment Advisors, 3i Partners, LetsVenture, and other prominent angel investors.
Accelerating Industrial Inspections in MENA
The new capital will be instrumental in expanding the company’s industrial inspection operations across key markets in the Middle East. Planys is targeting critical infrastructure sectors, including ports and terminals, refineries, petrochemical complexes, desalination plants, and power facilities.
The company utilizes a suite of advanced technologies, including hybrid Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), robotic crawlers, and an AI-powered 3D Inspection Twin. These solutions provide high-uptime, in-service inspections of vital marine and process assets, enabling owners to enhance safety, significantly reduce shutdown times, and optimize lifecycle costs.
Deep-Tech Solutions for Critical Assets
A key part of Planys’ expansion includes the launch of its upcoming internationally certified explosion-proof ROV, the “TankRover.” This innovative robot is designed for the in-service inspection of hydrocarbon storage tanks and other critical assets prevalent throughout the region’s process industry.
Furthermore, the company offers specialized capabilities for underwater concrete testing and advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in challenging and ultra-turbid environments. This expertise is crucial for maintaining the integrity of jetties, berths, quay walls, intake/outfall systems, and submerged process structures.
A Strong Foothold in the Region
With a proven track record of over 25,000 hours of deployment across more than 500 sites in over 10 countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, Planys has already established its credibility with industry giants like ExxonMobil, Shell, Saudi Aramco, and SABIC.
From its strategic base at Hub71 in Abu Dhabi, the company is deepening its regional presence. It leverages the ecosystem’s access to a global network of investors, corporate partners, and regulators to fuel growth across the GCC, further strengthened by strategic collaborations such as its partnership with Applus Velosi in Qatar.
