INJAZ Bahrain, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to youth empowerment, has set a new regional benchmark in sustainability. Its new headquarters has become the first youth center in both the Kingdom of Bahrain and the wider MENA region to be awarded the prestigious LEED Gold certification for its major renovation project.

A New Standard for Sustainable Workplaces

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the world’s most widely adopted green building rating system. Achieving this certification signifies INJAZ Bahrain’s commitment to creating a healthy, efficient, and future-ready environment that aligns with global best practices. The certification process was managed in collaboration with sustainability consultancy Green Guide.

Green by Design

The headquarters incorporates several innovative design features to minimize its environmental footprint. Solar panels installed over the parking areas generate approximately 31% of the building’s total energy needs. This is complemented by advanced efficiency measures that have cut total energy consumption by over 50% compared to conventional buildings.

The facility also features electric vehicle charging stations, promotes a 50% reduction in indoor water consumption, and slashes irrigation water use by 60%. Furthermore, natural daylighting is provided to more than 75% of occupied office spaces, enhancing the comfort and productivity of the team.

A Vision for a Greener Future

The achievement reflects the organization’s core values of leadership and positive community impact, showcasing how purpose-driven entities can lead the charge toward a more sustainable future.

Commenting on the milestone, Her Highness Sheikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairperson of INJAZ Bahrain, said: “Obtaining the LEED Gold certification for INJAZ Bahrain’s new headquarters reflects our deep commitment to sustainability and responsible leadership. This milestone demonstrates how purpose-driven organizations can lead by example, creating spaces that support people, protect the environment, and contribute to a more sustainable future for Bahrain.”
