Iran has unveiled RoboLegal, its first artificial intelligence-powered legal robot, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s efforts to leverage technology for social good. The new platform is designed to provide immediate legal advice through both voice and text, making legal information more accessible to citizens regardless of their location or financial status.
Expanding Access to Justice
The primary mission of RoboLegal is to lower the barriers to legal help for people who cannot afford lawyers or live in remote areas far from urban centers. By drawing on a vast database of Iranian legal cases and precedents, the AI delivers accurate and locally relevant advice. Beyond serving the public, the platform is also intended to be a tool for legal professionals, assisting judges and lawyers by handling routine tasks, which can help reduce costs and expedite court cases.
A Locally Developed Solution
A key feature of RoboLegal is that it has been developed entirely within Iran, ensuring its framework is tailored to the country’s specific legal system and cultural nuances. This local focus provides a higher degree of accuracy and relevance compared to generic, imported AI solutions. The launch is part of Iran’s broader national digital transformation strategy, which has already seen the digitization of over 200 general public services and more than 700 specialized services.
A Reflection of Iran’s Growing Tech Ecosystem
The development of RoboLegal highlights the increasing sophistication of Iran’s domestic startup and innovation ecosystem. The country’s tech sector is supported by a network of more than 45 science and technology parks and 600 innovation centers, which have nurtured successful local companies like the e-commerce giant Digikala and the app marketplace Cafe Bazaar. RoboLegal demonstrates a growing trend of applying this technological capacity not just to commercial ventures but also to addressing pressing social needs like fairness and justice.
