Jordan Launches National AI Initiative To Boost Student Literacy

The Ministry of Education of Jordan has announced a transformative national AI literacy initiative in partnership with Amira Learning, Carter Education Group, and NorthStar Education. The groundbreaking program aims to significantly strengthen English reading outcomes for primary school children across the Kingdom, leveraging the power of agentic AI.

This initiative reflects a shared belief that strong literacy skills are fundamental to long-term academic success, economic opportunity, and national development. By integrating evidence-based instruction with advanced AI, the program aligns with Jordan’s national goals for foundational literacy and the development of 21st-century skills, aiming to provide every child with the support needed to become a confident reader.

A National Vision for 21st-Century Skills

The program is a key part of the Ministry’s strategy to enhance educational standards and prepare students for a globalized world.

“At the Ministry of Education, we are guided by a clear principle: every student in Jordan deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed,” said Eng. Munib Tashman, Director of the Queen Rania Center for Education and Information Technology. “English language proficiency is not simply an academic requirement—it is a critical skill that strengthens understanding, builds confidence, and connects our students to the world.”

Eng. Tashman emphasized the program’s innovative approach, stating, “The Amira Learning initiative represents a shift from traditional support to intelligent, personalized learning. By responsibly integrating artificial intelligence, we are enabling students to receive targeted support, while equipping teachers with precise, actionable insights that enhance classroom practice.”

How the AI-Powered Program Works

The initiative will initially launch in primary schools across different regions of Jordan, targeting students in grades 4 and 7. The program includes comprehensive professional development and coaching for teachers ahead of the 12 weeks of instruction.

Students will engage in three to five one-on-one sessions with the Amira learning agent each week, with each session lasting between 10 to 15 minutes. Grounded in the Science of Reading, the Amira platform listens to students read aloud, providing immediate, personalized feedback while generating clear data on student progress for teachers. This allows educators to align their lesson plans with Jordan’s national English curriculum while addressing individual student needs.

Scaling for National Impact

The data and insights gathered from the initial phase will inform a year-long, nationally scaled program. This expansion will feature Arabic localization for teacher and parent dashboards, as well as locally relevant reading materials and assessment norms.

Nationally, students are expected to gain the equivalent of two to eight months of additional literacy improvement annually. The program has the potential to benefit up to 800,000 students across Jordan upon a full national scale-up.

“We’re honored to partner with Jordan to accelerate literacy growth, strengthen teacher insights and build a scalable model that can benefit hundreds of thousands of students,” said Mark Angel, co-founder and CEO of Amira Learning.
