The Center of Excellence for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Al-Bayt University recently organized an Innovation Marathon, attracting a wide range of university students and local community members from the Mafraq and Jerash governorates. The event aims to empower aspiring entrepreneurs by providing the necessary support to transform their innovative ideas into viable, executable projects.
A Collaborative Ecosystem Initiative
The marathon is a key component of the “Ideas towards Innovation – Manarat Al Shamal” program, developed through a strategic partnership between the Entrepreneurship Network, the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), and Ebtekar for Consulting.
This initiative operates under the umbrella of the broader “Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Economic Development and Employment (E4DE)” project. The E4DE project is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in collaboration with Jordan’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.
Funding is provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union, underscoring a significant international commitment to enhancing sustainable employment opportunities within Jordan.
Targeting Key Regional Sectors
The program is designed to cultivate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship specifically within the Mafraq and Jerash governorates. It provides a platform for young talent to devise creative solutions for pressing local challenges across several high-potential sectors.
Key areas of focus include Agricultural Technology (AgriTech), Tourism, IT-enabled solutions, and Energy. By concentrating on these industries, the marathon aims to stimulate economic growth and development tailored to the unique needs and opportunities of the region.
From Idea To Prototype
Participants in the marathon engaged in intensive, interactive sessions focused on crucial early-stage development phases. The workshops guided attendees through idea generation, team formation, and the creation of initial project prototypes.
Following the marathon, participants are being directed to apply for a comprehensive training bootcamp scheduled to take place from January 4-7, providing a clear pathway for further development and mentorship.
