The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of Jordan has announced a new initiative to enhance the local startup ecosystem by signing an agreement with the Turkish strategic innovation consulting firm, Vivica. The partnership will see the implementation of the “Jahiz” program, a pivotal project under Jordan’s National Entrepreneurship Policy (2021–2027) designed to prepare early-stage companies for investment and expansion.
A Comprehensive Support System For Growth
The “Jahiz” program aims to support Jordanian startups that are either developing their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or are preparing for commercial scaling. Selected companies will benefit from an integrated support package that includes intensive training, dedicated mentorship, and networking opportunities with industry experts. A key component of the program is the provision of financial grants, with eligible startups receiving up to $10,000 to fuel their growth.
Aligning With Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision
In a statement, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Al-Smirat, emphasized that the agreement aligns with the country’s Economic Modernization Vision and the ministry’s commitment to fostering a supportive entrepreneurial environment. He noted that the “Jahiz” program will provide a complete framework to empower startups, helping them refine their products, develop effective business plans, and ultimately improve their investment readiness.
Fostering Inclusive Entrepreneurship
The program will be open to all entrepreneurs across the kingdom, with special encouragement for startups founded or led by women and individuals with disabilities, reflecting a commitment to inclusive economic growth. The selection process for participating companies will be based on criteria to be announced later, focusing on the clarity and viability of the business idea, as well as its potential for significant growth and scalability. A core requirement is that the startup must be Jordanian.
A Collaborative Effort Funded By The World Bank
The “Jahiz” program will be implemented through strategic partnerships with local incubators and accelerators, under the management of Vivica. Funding for the initiative is provided by the World Bank through its Youth, Technology, and Jobs (YTJ) project, reinforcing the national and international efforts to bolster entrepreneurship in Jordan. The ministry has indicated that details regarding the application timeline and eligibility requirements will be announced shortly.
