The Kingdom of Bahrain has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to bolster its startup ecosystem, with Manama being officially named the “Arab Youth Entrepreneurs Capital for 2026.” The designation was granted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and announced at a prestigious ceremony organized by the Capital Governorate.
The event was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, and was attended by Her Excellency Mrs. Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, alongside officials and representatives from regional and international entrepreneurial organizations.
A Royal Vision for Youth Empowerment
In his remarks, HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa emphasized that the selection of Manama reflects the strategic vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which positions youth as a central pillar of comprehensive development. He also credited the continuous support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for solidifying the Kingdom’s standing as a regional hub for innovation.
“This selection represents a renewed responsibility to enhance the entrepreneurship ecosystem and open broader horizons for Arab youth to innovate, compete, and create future opportunities,” stated HH Sheikh Nasser. “Youth are the true foundation of innovation and entrepreneurship, and supporting them is not an option but an investment in the future of our Arab nations.”
Fostering a Regional Hub for Innovation
Sheikh Khalid bin Hamood Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate, described the announcement as a pivotal moment in Bahrain’s journey to empower its youth. He noted that the recognition is the result of integrated national efforts to build an advanced entrepreneurial framework.
The Governor confirmed that the designation marks the beginning of a year-long series of events and activities, to be held in collaboration with local and international partners. These initiatives will aim to empower young entrepreneurs and enhance their competitive capabilities.
International Recognition and Collaboration
The ceremony underscored the international validation of Bahrain’s thriving ecosystem. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sam Maggie, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Harvard University, who praised Bahrain’s model for fostering innovation and helping youth unlock their creative potential.
The official certificate of accreditation was presented to HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa by Dr. Hashim Hussein, Head of the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain.
Dr. Hussein expressed his pride in the designation, stating, “This choice reflects the wise leadership’s vision that has placed Bahraini energies, especially the youth, at the heart of the comprehensive development process. It also embodies the advanced position that the Kingdom of Bahrain has reached regionally and internationally in supporting entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth empowerment.”
