Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has officially launched K2 Think V2, its advanced sovereign reasoning model, making it freely accessible to the public through new iOS and Android mobile applications. This strategic move positions the UAE-developed technology as a direct, subscription-free alternative to commercial AI assistants from global players like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
Democratizing Access to Sovereign AI
By releasing dedicated mobile apps, MBZUAI is removing the technical barriers that typically confine advanced AI models to developers and researchers. The K2 Think V2 applications offer a user-friendly interface with features including text chat, voice input, conversation history, and message regeneration.
Users can securely sign in using Apple or Google authentication, and all features are available immediately without any in-app purchases or subscription fees. This democratizes access to frontier-class AI, allowing a broader audience to experience and utilize the UAE’s sovereign technology.
Under the Hood: A 70-Billion Parameter Powerhouse
K2 Think V2 is built upon the K2-V2 base model, a powerful 70-billion parameter system developed by MBZUAI’s Institute of Foundation Models. The model is purpose-built for complex reasoning tasks and delivers leading results on industry benchmarks such as AIME2025 and GPQA-Diamond when compared against other open-source systems.
The AI excels at solving problems step-by-step using long chains of thought, a critical capability for advanced analytical and problem-solving applications.
Enhanced Reliability and Performance
MBZUAI has made significant strides in addressing key challenges in large language models. The new K2 Think V2 model has reduced its hallucination rate on the AA-Omniscience benchmark to 52%, a substantial improvement from 89% in previous versions.
Furthermore, its long-context reasoning capabilities have improved from 33% to 53%, enabling it to process up to 512,000 tokens. These enhancements increase the model’s reliability for practical, real-world applications.
A Strategic Move for UAE’s AI Leadership
The launch of K2 Think V2 is the latest milestone in MBZUAI’s K2 model family, reinforcing the UAE’s leadership in building globally accessible and fully sovereign frontier-grade AI systems. Following the release of K2-65B in 2024 and K2 Think-32B in September 2025, this new version scales the university’s research to a frontier-class system designed for deep reasoning, long-context processing, and native tool use.
