Democratizing Business Building in the AI Era
According to a memo from CEO Mark Zuckerberg, reported by Axios, the move recognizes the historical reliance of the tech giant’s business model on small companies. Tens of millions of founders currently utilize the platform to scale operations and acquire customers.
Zuckerberg emphasized that the advent of artificial intelligence should lower the barriers to entry for new ventures globally.
“In the AI era, it should be easier than ever for people to build new businesses,” Zuckerberg stated in the memo.
He added, “We want to build the services that enable this. This is important for ensuring that people broadly share in the prosperity created by superintelligence.”
The new division will be jointly led by Meta President and Vice Chairman Dina Powell McCormick alongside Head of Product Naomi Gleit.
The company is actively recruiting internal talent to build out the necessary tools, with Zuckerberg calling on product managers, designers, and engineers to join the project.
What This Means for the MENA Tech Ecosystem
While a global rollout, this renewed focus on accessible AI tools carries significant weight for the Middle East and North Africa. The region’s digital economy depends heavily on social commerce, particularly in markets like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
In these countries, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook serve as primary storefronts for thousands of micro-businesses and growing startups.
As MENA governments push for rapid AI integration across private sectors, localized tools from major tech players could provide regional startups with cheaper, more efficient ways to operate. This allows local founders to handle customer service, content generation, and targeted marketing without requiring massive enterprise software budgets.
