Moroccan Super-App ORA Acquires Cathedis in Push for End-to-End Control

3 Min Read

Moroccan super-app ORA Technologies has acquired Casablanca-based last-mile delivery platform Cathedis for an undisclosed sum. This strategic acquisition is a pivotal move in ORA’s mission to build a fully integrated e-commerce and fintech ecosystem by bringing a critical part of the logistics chain in-house.

By The Numbers

  • ORA’s Series A: $7.5 Million (July 2025)
  • ORA Cash Users: 50,000+ accounts
  • Kooul Food Delivery Clients: 15,000+
  • Founded: 2023

A Strategic Move for End-to-End Control

By acquiring Cathedis, ORA Technologies gains direct control over its logistics and delivery operations. This vertical integration is designed to create a seamless end-to-end experience for users of its e-commerce and food delivery platform, Kooul. The move allows ORA to manage the entire customer journey, from digital payment facilitated by its ORA Cash mobile wallet to the final physical delivery of goods.

ORA’s Rapid Growth Trajectory

Founded in 2023 by Omar Alami, ORA has demonstrated impressive growth and fundraising momentum. The startup closed a $1.9 million pre-Series A round in March, followed by a substantial $7.5 million Series A in July. This capital is fueling rapid expansion, with its universal mobile wallet, ORA Cash, attracting over 50,000 accounts in just five months and its food delivery service, Kooul, registering more than 15,000 active clients. The company is also leveraging its wallet to digitize Morocco’s large cash-on-delivery market.

Consolidating the Local Market

The acquisition is a significant event for the Moroccan startup ecosystem. The purchase of Cathedis, which had itself raised a Series A funding round just months prior, by another fast-growing local startup points to a maturing and consolidating market where well-funded local players are beginning to make strategic acquisitions to solidify their market position.

About the Companies

  • ORA Technologies: A Moroccan super-app founded in 2023, offering a suite of integrated services including P2P payments via its ORA Cash wallet, e-commerce, and on-demand delivery through its Kooul platform.
  • Cathedis: A Casablanca-based last-mile logistics and delivery platform providing services across Morocco.

Looking Ahead

This acquisition positions ORA Technologies as a formidable, vertically integrated competitor in Morocco’s digital economy. By controlling both the fintech and logistics layers of its platform, ORA is better equipped to offer a superior user experience, optimize efficiency, and aggressively tackle major market challenges, such as the digitization of cash-on-delivery.
