Advancing the “AI Made in Morocco” Vision
Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni chaired the closing ceremony in Rabat on March 30, positioning the hackathon as a core execution mechanism for the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy.
The competition directly supports the government’s “AI Made in Morocco” framework. Rather than relying heavily on imported platforms and foreign expertise, the country is prioritizing the development of its own digital capabilities and technological sovereignty.
Organizers deliberately scheduled the event during Ramadan. By tying AI innovation to a culturally significant month, the government managed to drive participation from younger demographics that standard technology programs often struggle to reach.
Tackling Domestic Challenges Through Smart Tech
Participants were tasked with addressing specific socio-economic and environmental challenges. Project themes covered a broad spectrum of national priorities, including public service digitization, smart mobility, digital inclusion, environmental sustainability, water access, energy management, and cultural heritage preservation.
The national first prize was awarded to a team from the Drâa-Tafilalet region for their project, “TNT.”
Teams from Fez-Meknes and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab took home the second and third prizes, respectively, highlighting the geographic diversity of the country’s emerging tech talent.
