Morocco Positions Agadir As The Kingdom’s Next Major Innovation Hub

3 Min Read

The Souss-Massa region, historically renowned for its pillars of tourism, agriculture, and fishing, is undergoing a profound transformation into Morocco’s newest technological hub. Driven by a large university presence and a growing entrepreneurial spirit, the coastal city of Agadir is leveraging key infrastructure like Technoparc Agadir and the Souss-Massa City of Innovation (CISM) to build a competitive and innovative ecosystem.

Technoparc A Hub For Souss Startups

Spanning 10,000 square meters, Technoparc Agadir is designed to accelerate the growth of the region’s startups. The facility includes one hundred offices, a fabrication lab (FabLab), a gaming area, training halls, and a co-working space with 38 stations that is already at 100% occupancy.
Since its launch in December 2021, the hub has become a digital cornerstone for the region, having supported 142 startups and digital companies. Several high-potential ventures have emerged from its programs, including FoodTech startup Biborne, which is present in five countries, and e-sports platform ALKORA, with over 10 million users. Three startups have already secured funding rounds: Education Media Company (EdTech), AZA Petrosolution (Industry 4.0), and Cloudfret (e-logistics).

TIWIZI Accelerator Boosts Regional Tourism Tech

To bridge the gap between technology and the region’s traditional economic strengths, the TIWIZI accelerator program has focused on nurturing solutions for the tourism sector. The program’s three winners are actively innovating in this space:

  • Goride Transfer: A dedicated transport solution for tourists and tour operators.
  • FLYVIBE: An intelligent platform for planning trips, including transport, accommodation, and activities.
  • Beyond the Map: An immersive virtual reality tool for visualizing landmarks, planning routes, and booking tickets.
These solutions highlight Technoparc’s commitment to fostering startups that can enhance the competitiveness of established industries.

Forging Strategic Partnerships For Growth

The dynamism of the Souss-Massa ecosystem is being amplified by strategic collaborations. The Orange Digital Center has established its second national center within the Technoparc, featuring a modern FabLab designed to enhance the digital skills of local youth and provide startups with advanced training.
Furthermore, the Souss Tech Academy, launched in partnership with the Jadara Foundation and the Regional Council, offers intensive six-month training programs in web development and digital marketing. This initiative aims to create a pool of work-ready talent that can be integrated directly into the local startup scene, reinforcing Agadir’s position as a gateway for digital innovation in the region.
