Morocco’s Promamec Secures $8.5M to Bolster National Medical Supply Chain

3 Min Read

Promamec, a leading Moroccan provider of medical equipment and consumables, has secured an $8.5 million commitment from AfricInvest’s healthcare-focused vehicle, the Transform Health Fund (THF). The financing is designed to strengthen Promamec’s working capital, enabling the company to scale the delivery of critical healthcare products and improve their availability across the country’s hospitals and clinics.

A Legacy Player in Moroccan Healthcare

Founded in the 1980s, Promamec has established a central role within Morocco’s healthcare ecosystem. The company operates an integrated business model that combines the distribution of international medical technologies with local production, assembly, and comprehensive after-sales services.

This end-to-end approach includes providing technical support and training to healthcare professionals, ensuring the safe and effective use of medical technologies. This has positioned Promamec as a trusted partner for both public and private healthcare providers, contributing to improved patient outcomes and operational stability.

Details of the Blended-Finance Deal

The $8.5 million commitment from THF is structured as a senior secured loan facility, providing Promamec with a stable financing base to expand its operations. This facility complements ongoing support from local banking partners and existing shareholders, including the founding Lahlou family and Vantage Capital.

The blended-finance structure combines development-oriented capital with private-sector financing, an approach increasingly used to scale essential infrastructure in emerging markets by unlocking growth while maintaining financial discipline.

Strengthening Morocco’s Healthcare Backbone

Promamec’s product portfolio covers several critical therapeutic areas, including dialysis solutions, medical imaging systems, surgical equipment, and a wide range of daily-use consumables. The new funding is expected to enhance stock availability, shorten lead times, and improve delivery capabilities, particularly to peri-urban and rural healthcare facilities.

By reinforcing local inventory and logistics, the investment directly supports Morocco’s national efforts to reduce supply chain disruptions and ensure equitable access to medical supplies across all regions.

An End-to-End Impact Model

In a joint statement, THF co-leads Noorin Mawani and Faisal Jiwa highlighted Promamec’s holistic approach, noting that access to medical technology extends beyond procurement to include training, maintenance, and a reliable supply of consumables.

They emphasised that Promamec’s model addresses these interconnected needs, enabling long-term impact and system-wide resilience. The co-leads also pointed to the company’s transparent market practices and strong local assembly capabilities as key factors underpinning its scalability and social impact.
