The third edition of the Sportech Summit by MDJS recently convened in Rabat, reinforcing its position as a key international gathering for stakeholders in sports, technology, and entrepreneurship. Organized by Accelab, the event aimed to catalyze sports investment and foster the emergence of high-potential sports technology startups in the region.
Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the summit brought together dozens of experts, investors, and sports marketing consultants to explore the burgeoning Sportech landscape.
Building on Past Success
Othman Ibn Ghazala, General Manager of Accelab, highlighted the summit’s role as a forum for innovation and investment in the sports industry. He noted the tangible results from previous editions.
“During the first two editions, we successfully supported 12 startups, three of which have raised funding and evolved into key players in the sector in Morocco and across Africa,” Ibn Ghazala stated. He proudly pointed out that one of these startups managed the ticketing for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
However, he also acknowledged existing challenges, noting, “The sports industry struggles in its development, especially in attracting investors.” The summit addressed this head-on through expert panels featuring investors and professionals from the banking and sports industries.
A Strategic Convergence of Sport and Tech
Amal Falah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, described the summit as a strategic platform for dialogue between sports, technology, and entrepreneurship. She praised Accelab’s significant contribution to building a dynamic and value-creating Moroccan Sportech ecosystem.
In her opening address, Seghrouchni emphasized the massive economic potential at this intersection. “The accelerated adoption of digital technologies and artificial intelligence could enable the global sports sector to generate up to $130 billion in additional annual revenue, a potential 25% increase,” she explained.
“Solutions developed by Sportech startups play a crucial role. They enhance athlete preparation and performance through data analysis and AI, improve sports infrastructure management, promote injury prevention, and reinvent the fan experience to be more digital and personalized,” the Minister added.
Welcoming the New Cohort
A key highlight of the event was the introduction of three new startups selected for the “Stadium by MDJS” acceleration program. This initiative is designed to provide targeted support to promising Sportech ventures. The new cohort includes:
- 212SPORT: A platform that unifies the national sports community by providing high-performance digital tools for clubs and coaches.
- AIR FIT: An innovative outdoor fitness platform that redefines exercise by offering on-demand, customized training experiences.
- MY COACH: A digital platform that connects users with certified sports and personal trainers, featuring smart matching and easy session booking.
According to organizers, the “Stadium by MDJS” program has already facilitated three successful funding rounds for its startups, with values ranging between 2 and 5 million Moroccan Dirhams.
