Morocco’s StartGate And Glovo Launch Initiative To Bridge Iberian Tech Ecosystems

3 Min Read

StartGate, the startup campus of Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), has partnered with global delivery platform Glovo to launch “Iberia-Morocco StartUp Connect,” an initiative designed to deepen technological cooperation between the World Cup 2030 co-hosts: Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.

The event, held at the StartGate-UM6P Campus in Technopolis under the patronage of the Ministry of Digital Transition, serves as a strategic platform to position Morocco as a prime destination for international technology investors and foster cross-border innovation.

Fostering Tri-Continental Tech Collaboration

The “Iberia-Morocco StartUp Connect” initiative convened a select group of venture capital funds, incubators, and high-potential entrepreneurs from the three nations. The primary objective was to identify concrete areas for collaboration and build long-term partnerships that leverage the unique strengths of each ecosystem.

By showcasing successful case studies and cooperation models, the event aims to consolidate regional cooperation and unlock the shared potential of the Moroccan and Iberian tech landscapes ahead of their joint hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

A Vote of Confidence From Glovo

Oscar Pierre, founder and CEO of Glovo, highlighted the immense potential Morocco represents for international partners, citing his own company’s success in the country.

“Morocco is one of our best-performing countries across our portfolio of 23 markets. Casablanca is actually our number one city in terms of orders,” Pierre stated during the event.

He emphasized that the initiative presents a significant opportunity for Spanish and Portuguese investors to tap into a thriving market. “There’s not only great proximity, but also many synergies for Iberian businesspeople to invest here,” Pierre added.

Government Backing And A Focus On AI

The event was inaugurated by Amal El Fallah Serghouchni, Morocco’s Minister of Digital Transition, who outlined the vision behind the “AI Made in Morocco” initiative. This national strategy aims to build a competitive startup ecosystem rooted in artificial intelligence by introducing entrepreneurs to the country’s robust support mechanisms.

The collaboration is a direct implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed between the ministry and Glovo to energize and support the local tech ecosystem, reflecting Morocco’s commitment to establishing stable public policies that attract major industrial and service investments.
