In a major achievement for the Moroccan tech and academic landscape, students from EMINES – School of Industrial Management at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) have been selected as Global Finalists in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge. Representing Morocco on the global stage, the team is among only 45 finalists selected worldwide from an initial pool of 18,860 participants. This recognition places Moroccan innovation at the forefront of a competition involving over 150 countries and rigorous evaluation by NASA experts.
A Milestone in Global Space Innovation
The NASA International Space Apps Challenge is a massive global hackathon that invites coders, scientists, designers, and storytellers to use NASA’s open data to address real-world challenges on Earth and in space. The 2025 cycle saw record-breaking engagement with over 114,000 registered participants and more than 11,500 projects submitted across 551 local events.
The UM6P team’s project successfully navigated both local and global judging phases, standing out for its technical depth and creative problem-solving. By reaching the final stage, these students have demonstrated that Moroccan academic institutions are producing talent capable of competing with the world’s most elite innovators.
