Bringing Morocco’s $40B Retail Market Online
Founded in 2022 by Samer Choumar, Meriem Benabad, Youssef Haddouch, Reda Nebri, and Youssef Drafate, ZSystems is targeting a massive, largely offline market plagued by inefficiencies in sourcing, pricing, and distribution. The startup’s unified digital platform aims to introduce transparency and data-driven decision-making for thousands of merchants.
The round was led by Azur Innovation Management, with follow-on investments from existing backers MNF Ventures and Witamax. The round also welcomed the Harambeans Prosperity Fund, marking ZSystems’ first international institutional investor.
Fueling Expansion and Product Development
This latest capital injection follows a previous pre-seed round of approximately $1.05 million from investors including MNF Ventures, Witamax, CASHPLUS Ventures, and Kalys Ventures.
With the new funds, ZSystems plans to enhance its product and platform capabilities, accelerate merchant acquisition across Morocco, and begin scaling its operations for regional expansion. The company’s model helps retailers streamline procurement while allowing brands and wholesalers to optimize inventory and reach new customers.
Backed by EBRD and AWS for Strategic Scale
Beyond its equity investors, ZSystems is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) Star Venture programme and Amazon Web Services (AWS). This strategic support provides the company with critical infrastructure, mentorship, and resources needed to build a robust and scalable digital retail ecosystem.
As informal retail continues to be a major part of many African economies, platforms like ZSystems are becoming critical infrastructure. With fresh capital and strong institutional support, the company is set to play a significant part in reshaping commerce in Morocco and beyond.
