In a significant move to strengthen its national entrepreneurial landscape, Oman’s Ministry of Social Development has officially announced the establishment of the Oman Entrepreneurship Association. The initiative, sanctioned under ministerial decision No 362/2025 by H E Dr Laila bint Ahmed bin Awad Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, aims to create a central platform for fostering innovation and empowering the private sector across the Sultanate.

A Strategic Mandate for Growth

The newly formed association is tasked with a comprehensive mandate designed to accelerate the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cultivate a robust entrepreneurship culture. Its key responsibilities include actively promoting and supporting new entrepreneurial ventures, increasing public awareness, and submitting strategic proposals to develop legislation relevant to the sector. Furthermore, the association will conduct specialised research and analyse labour market trends to guide aspiring entrepreneurs toward viable business opportunities.

Governance and Leadership

Oversight for the association’s operations will be managed by a 12-member board of directors, with each member serving a two-year term. In its initial phase, the founding members of the association will convene to elect the first board, setting the leadership foundation for the organisation’s strategic direction and initiatives.

Financial Framework

The association’s financial sustainability will be supported by a diverse range of funding sources. These include annual membership fees, approved contributions and donations, and revenue generated from its events and programmes. The model also allows for government support and other financial resources as authorised by the ministry, ensuring a stable foundation for its long-term objectives.
